Book Review- Just Shocking!

Uncategorized No Comments »

Just Shocking is a book by Andy Griffiths.Andy Griffiths is from Melbourne, Australia. He was born on the 3rd of September 1961.Just Shocking  is made up of several stories just like all of the other Just! books in this series. It is very funny and totally random just like the other books. Andy has a great imagination and can cook up of stories that really make you think. This book has a quiz at the back to see if you will like this book. It has crazy questions and at the end whatever score you got you will still like this book. This book is hilarious like all his other books and I give it 5/5. I recommend this book to anyone who can read!

The Rap That Unpacks.

Uncategorized No Comments »

As most of you know in one of my previous blog posts last term LA 21’s Inquiry question was “Why is the world coming to Adelaide?”, and our task was to make up a rap about a person migrating from another country to Australia with our assigned groups. Here is my groups rap.

I come from Poland, Warsaw,

the land is very war torn.

With the second world war, people fleeing galore,

it’s hard to find a place to live.

CHORUS

It was good in Poland until the war,

my family and I lived there until we could live there no more.

I still cook from long ago. to keep the tradition on the flow.

I am a migrant on a boat,

thank god it stayed afloat!

It was a long and rocky ride,

and what a relief when we arrived.

As a foreign displaced nurse,

it got easy but it was hard at at first.

My auntie and uncle lived in Australia,

and they helped me out so I wouldn’t be a total failure.

CHORUS

It was hard to learn English but I kept on goin’,

I then became a citizen to keep the dream of a safe place flowin’.

In my spare time I went for a drive,

to an English school just so I could survive.

With further education of Australian life,

I wasn’t that scared,

I wasn’t in strife!

CHORUS

THE END

Inquiry Reflection

“What are the consequences” has been L.A 21’s Inquiry question over the past few weeks this relatesto what are the consequences of advertising and how it influences you to buy a certain product. This inquiry unit has been very interesting and has made me think about the different advertising strategies that different products use and every time I see a commercial I see a different strategy. I am not easily persuaded however some products even persuade me. So think about it the next time you see an ad on TV.

Graduation Committee.

Uncategorized No Comments »

This year I am in year 7 and there will be a graduation party at the end of the year. We are organising a graduation committee to organise the ceremony. To become a part of the committee you need to write a post of 100-200 words explaining why you would be a good choice. Here is my post.

I think I would be a good choice for I work well with other people and will think of fun ideas for the ceremony. I also commit to whatever I am doing and if I get chosen I will commit to whatever task I get set. I will also try to be very organised at what I do. But out of all these qualities my strong point is working with other people I am a very social person and will get along with other people and their ideas. But most importantly I will try and think of what all the other years 7’s would like and to make their end of year graduation ceremony enjoyable.

Book Review- Don’t call me ISHMAEL!

Uncategorized No Comments »

Hello Amarildo here,

I am writing a book review on the book “Don’t call me ISHMAEL!” By Michael Gerard Bauer.

Have you ever read the novel Moby Dick or perhaps seen the movie. Well if you have you’ll know what its about. It’s a tale about Captain Ahab and his wild quest for revenge against Moby Dick, the white whale that took off his leg. And if you have read the first three words in the novel you’ll know that they are, CALL-ME-ISHMAEL. The very name that a fourteen year old boy has. He thinks that he has something called Ishmael Leseur syndrome. Its not a real illness it’s just something he made. For you see on the first day of high school the teacher called out the roll and came up to his name once she said it another boy in the class said “Ishmael? What sort of a wussy-crap name is that?” That boys name is Barry Bagsley and has been teasing Ishmael ever since. In this funny and cunning book Ishmael is fighting Ishmael Leseur syndrome. This id definitely not a book that has any boring bits it’s the kind of book that makes your hands sweat from holding it so much. And if it can make me fall of my chair with laughter I’m sure it will make you.To prove it is a good book “Don’t Call me Ishmael” Won the 2007 Book Week award for Shortlisted Book For Older Readers. I recommend this book to anyone over the age of nine for it is quite a long book. 5/5 for ”Don’t call me ISHMAEL” Well done Michael.

High Flyer Discussion.

Uncategorized No Comments »

For home work we were assigned to discuss the term- 3 High Flyers. I discussed it with my mum and this is what she had to say about the High Flyers.

I think that the Premiers Reading Challenge should include a compulsory selection of classical childrens literature from all over the world.

I also believe that the class could read the same book and get together and discuss the book.

I am glad that the High Flyers include multi-cultural activities because it is very positive to learn about other cultures and their way of life.

Another suggestion is that every student in the class chooses a different country to research on their culture. At the end of the project all the individual finds can be collated into a booklet about all the cultures that have been researched.

High Flyer.

This term for one of our High Flyer tasks we have to write a blog post about a famous person from Adelaide. I have chosen to write about Guy Sebastian.

 Guy Sebastian

Guy Theodore Sebastian was born on the 26th of October 1981 in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. However moved to Melbourne at first but eventually took up residence in Adelaide. Guy Sebastian’s journey started when he decided to audition for the first Australian Idol. He passed the audition and it has been success from then on. Beating Shannon Noll in the final was a great success for him and even more success was to come. He has won 22 to date and has been nominated for 7 awards. These awards and nominations include the ARIA Music awards, Nickelodeon Kid’s choice awards, Channel V Awards, Adelaide Advertiser Confidential Awards, MTV Australia Video Music Awards, APRA Music Awards, Urban Music Awards and many more. If Guy Sebastian continues to be such a success he will be even more known and respected around the world. The reason that I chose Guy was that he is a High Flyer. He had the talent, he tried out and he gave effort to reach his goal, and he is continuing to pursue his goal and become what he wants to become. He is close to that goal, and has possibly already reached it . . . . .

Migration Museum Excursion.

Uncategorized No Comments »

Today LA.21 went to the Migration Museum. We did this because of our Inquiry Question “Why is the world coming to Adelaide?”. We were looking at the different migration stories. And reasons for migrating. At the museum they gave us each a suitcase, bag or box from an immigrant and we had to piece together their stories. The excursion was a good experience and I wonder where this Inquiry Question will take us next.

Personal Research Project.

Uncategorized 3 Comments »

This term in LA21 we have been assigned to do a Personal Research Project. A personal Research Project is a presentation on a topic that the presenter chooses. I’m going to present mine on PowerPoint and it’s going to be about The Wolverine (The Animal). However we do have a choice in the way we present our topic, it doesn’t have to be on PowerPoint. I choose The Wolverine because I think that it has been forgotten because of the fictional X-MEN Wolverine so this presentation is about bringing it to the knowledge of people, even if it is to just my class.

Percentages.

Uncategorized No Comments »

These past few days we have been learning about percentages. The meaning of Percent is per 100. It’s the result obtained by taking a fraction (percentage) out of a number. Today we were learning how to convert fractions into percentages. For example if we had the fraction of 21/28 as a fraction. First we multiply the denominator (in this case 21) which is 2100. Then we divide the two numbers. So the end result is 75. Then we turn that 75 into 75%. So the end result is that 21 is 75% from 28. You have to imagine that the denominator (which was in this example 28) is a 100.
